Fall exhibitions do accessories

It is a seriously good season for accesories at the museums. First up Stephen Jones is bringing his Hats exhibition from the Victoria & Albert Museum to New York. I have the book from the show and it was enough to get me looking into millinery classes. Just look, but it is crazy good. Insane piles of feathers? Check. Questionable use of animal fur? Check. Totally unwearble awesomeness? Check. The show is at the Bard Graduate Center: Decorative Arts, Design History, Material Culture until April 15.

The Museum of Art and Design has Picasso to Koons: the artist as Jeweler. It looks like this is a fairly small show but MAD also has an amazing jewelry (mostly southeast asian and artist jewelry) in it's permanant collection. As with the Calder show a while ago it is always fascinating to see how super creative people without technical knowledge about jewelry approach the process of making. Thursday and Friday nights are pay what you wish.

De Vera

I'm pretty sure if I really needed to get rid of a lot of money in hurry I'd head straight to De Vera on Crosby Street. (It's always good to have a plan just in case.) They've updated their site since last time I checked it out and it's for real gorgeous. Their books, Jewelry and Objects are available on their site too.

the amazing Upstate

It's everywhere and I love it. All these new dyed lovelies are a little like my college fibers class dye samples except that I don't have to feel like a weirdo textile artist old lady to love them now. Some of these are downright preppy. Yeah for 70's art professor chic!

Rocky top

These rings from Adina Mills are pretty rad. The epoxy polymer is lighter and more wearable than a metal ring this size would be. You can find them on etsy, Wasteland in California and coming to Maryam Nassir Zadeh (the coolest store ever) soon.
